This 200 m² building, now a Portuguese national monument, hosts the auction of 235 Africans captured during Nuno Tristão's raids between 1441 and 1444. The Cais da Alfândega stretches 500 meters along the rio Bensafrim, transformed from 1440 into a customs wharf to tax human cargo.
