Yes — AR is the CORE mechanic of the game (not a gimmick). Point your phone at the façade: a character (knight, witch, monk, sailor, detective, ghost, spy, fairy…) appears full-screen and speaks to you in your language with their dedicated ElevenLabs voice (each character has their own unique voice). At the puzzle climax, golden letters magically write themselves on the real wall — that's your answer. After each puzzle solved, a treasure chest floats in front of you. 360° radar with "locked on" vibration to guide you. All via your smartphone camera, no app to install.
Pick your city and your genre, choose how many phones you need (1 to 10 — one phone = one team), pay online (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link) and your activation code arrives by email instantly. No deposit, no date to pick — the code is valid for 1 year, play whenever you want.
Between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on the route and your pace. No time limit: take coffee breaks, visit a monument, resume. You can even pause and continue the next day — the code stays active for 24 hours after first launch.
Standard smartphone GPS accuracy (5-10 metres) is enough. Enable location in your phone settings and let the browser access it. In very dense areas (narrow medieval streets), our 360° radar takes over with a "locked on" vibration when you point in the right direction.
The per-phone price includes the full game (8 puzzles, AR narration with ElevenLabs voice (unique per character), hint system, final ranking, AR + geolocated treasure hunt) in 32 languages. Code valid for 1 year. Unlimited players on the phone. Paid entries to monuments (museums, cathedrals) are NOT included and are listed on the game page.
Both. Every puzzle and every narration is available as written text (for players who prefer to read quietly) AND as high-quality voice-over (for eyes-free play while walking or in groups). You switch anytime. Great for low-vision accessibility or anyone who hates reading on mobile.
No. Once you have your code, you activate whenever you want within 1 year. No time slot, no ticketing, no queue. You can get your code ahead while planning your trip OR decide at the foot of the monument — the code is instant, the game starts in a minute.
Each route shows a difficulty rating in stars (★ to ★★★★★) on its page. Puzzles are designed to be stimulating but accessible. If you get stuck, a progressive hint system unblocks you (first hint subtle, second more explicit, full solution if needed).
The game uses GPS, screen, camera (AR) and audio, consuming about 20-25% battery per hour. For a 2-3h session, start with at least 70% or bring a portable charger. Battery saver mode is not recommended (it degrades AR performance).
€12 per phone (standard genres: Historical, Fairy tale, Romance, Cinema) or €14.99 per phone (premium genres: Mystery, Fantasy, Supernatural, Spy thriller — denser narrative, deeper AR). Discount for 2-3 phones (save up to 30%). City Pass = every game in a city. Explorer Pass = 5 games of your choice in any destination.
32 languages: French, English, German, Spanish and Italian in native version (polished by our editors) + 27 languages auto-translated by our AI (Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Korean, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Turkish, Greek, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Serbian, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Hindi, Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Vietnamese). Every player plays in their own language.
One phone = one team. You can buy 1 to 10 phones in a single purchase. For 2–6 people: one phone is plenty, the team shares the screen and solves together. For 7+ (birthday, hen/stag, team building): grab 2 to 10 phones — each team plays independently and you can compare scores at the end.
Yes! Most routes are accessible from age 8 with an adult. For younger kids, pick the Fairy tale genre (🧚) — it's written specifically for families with children from age 6: age-appropriate puzzles, soft narration, friendly creatures, treasure hunt format.
Any recent smartphone with GPS, camera and a modern web browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox). Works on iPhone (iOS 14+) and Android (Android 9+). No app to install.
Some routes pass through monuments with paid entry (museums, cathedrals, palaces). These optional fees are clearly listed on each game page under "Additional costs". Many entries are optional — you can solve puzzles from outside or work around them.
8 genres to choose from — live the same city under 8 different angles: 🏛️ Historical (the real history that happened here), 🔍 Mystery (solve a cold case), 🐉 Fantasy (live the hidden legend), 💕 Romance (piece together a love story), 👻 Supernatural (follow the hauntings), 🕵️ Spy thriller (decode the intrigue), 🎬 Cinema (in the footsteps of films shot here), 🧚 Fairy tale (family-friendly route). You pick the vibe, we handle the rest.
It depends on the route. Some take place in flat city centres and are wheelchair accessible. Others include stairs or uneven terrain (medieval old towns, archaeological ruins). Each game page specifies accessibility (flat / partial / not suitable) and total distance.
Yes — it's actually a core OddballTrip feature. At checkout you pick how many phones (1 to 10). You receive 1 activation code per phone, each team plays independently on their own device and you can compare scores at the end. Perfect for birthdays, hen/stag parties, team building, school trips.
Yes: multi-phone discount (up to -30% for 3 phones), City Pass (all games in a city bundled), Explorer Pass (5 games of your choice), and Trip Coins (earn points on each played game and review, redeemable as discount on future purchases).
Yes — it's the core promise of OddballTrip. A city is no longer 1 game but up to 8 games sharing the same real monuments while telling 8 different stories: London as a mystery (Sherlock-style), Madrid as a romance, Tokyo as a fantasy quest, Paris as a spy thriller… The fiction adapts to the chosen genre, but the real heritage anecdotes of the neighbourhood remain.
Games are played outdoors and remain playable in moderate rain. In bad weather, simply postpone — the code is valid for 1 year, play the next day or the following week at no cost.
Check that location is enabled in your phone settings AND allowed for your browser. Move outside, away from tall buildings. If the issue persists, restart your browser or phone. As a last resort, contact us via chat — we can unblock you manually and refund if needed.
You earn Trip Coins for every completed game (3 coins per puzzle solved, 24 coins per game) and 50 coins for leaving a review. They accumulate in your wallet and convert into discounts on future purchases. No expiry date.
An outdoor escape game (also called open-air escape game, urban treasure hunt, self-guided puzzle tour) is an adventure game played in the streets of a city, smartphone in hand. You solve puzzles rooted in real history and heritage while exploring authentic monuments — it's both a city tour and an escape game. No closed room, no fixed schedule: the entire city becomes your game board.
Yes, a mobile connection (4G/5G) is needed to load stages, trigger AR, play voice-overs and validate your answers. The game uses about 50–80 MB for a full session (with audio). If playing abroad, check your data plan or grab a local eSIM.
Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link via Stripe — encrypted, secure checkout. Full price paid online at purchase. No deposit, no day-of payment, no cash.
A regular city tour tells you the city (passive, fixed time, group with a human guide). OddballTrip makes you PLAY the city: you search, you find, you decode puzzles while AR narration immerses you. You learn as much as with a heritage audio guide, but you're having fun — no schedule, no guide to follow, you leave when you want and pause anytime. It's an interactive, self-guided city tour with escape-game mechanics.
Yes, many players play solo (tourists on city break, locals rediscovering their city). The experience works very well alone — AR narration keeps you company. With 2-6 it's more interactive. With 7+ we recommend several phones for multiple teams.
Refund if it doesn't work. If you hit a technical issue before or during the game (GPS stuck, AR not loading, invalid code…), reach us via chat or email — we refund in full. If you change your mind, you can also email within 14 days of purchase as long as the code hasn't been activated. Once the game has started, the code stays available for 1 year for a second go.
Yes — each game is also a geolocated treasure hunt. You follow your phone's 360° radar to a precise point, AR reveals a chest, you solve the puzzle and collect a fragment. After 8 puzzles, you piece together the final answer. Especially strong as a team activity (1 to 10 phones per purchase) or with kids using the Fairy tale genre.
Yes, each puzzle has a progressive hint system: a first subtle hint, a second more explicit, and the full solution if needed. You unlock whenever you want, no score penalty.
1. Pick a city and a genre (8 to choose from). 2. Pay online (€12 or €14.99 depending on the genre). 3. Receive your activation code by email immediately, valid for 1 year. 4. When you're ready, open the code in your browser, go to the starting point and play. GPS guides you puzzle to puzzle, AR brings characters and chests onto the real façades. No app to install.
No, no app is needed. The game runs directly in your smartphone's browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox). Simply open the link you receive after purchase. Works on iPhone and Android.
