Leaning for eight centuries, the Garisenda inspired Dante with the geometry of his Inferno.
In the 13th century, Bolognese families fought for the sky with towers. Two remain: proud Asinelli and leaning Garisenda. Dante, who studied in Bologna, is said to have hidden the seven circles of his Inferno in seven monuments of the city before putting them on parchment.

The family towers
In the 12th and 13th centuries, Bologna had more than a hundred family towers, visible signs of alliances and vendettas. The Garisenda, originally 60 m tall, was lowered in the 14th century as it already threatened to collapse. Asinelli still rises to 97 m.
Via Zamboni holds the university core: San Giacomo Maggiore, Palazzo Poggi, San Giovanni in Monte. A student in Bologna around 1287, Dante was struck by these towers leaning like the damned and by the Guelph-Ghibelline quarrels that would feed the Commedia.

At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you. When you find it, the phone vibrates, an AR chest opens and reveals your answer fragment. 8 stops, 8 clues to find with the camera, 1 final code.
