The Guanches, first inhabitants of the Canaries, likely descended from Berber peoples of North Africa. Arriving on the archipelago over two thousand years ago, they developed a unique civilisation: cave dwellings, polychrome rock paintings, mummification of the dead. The Castilian conquest of 1478-1483 put an end to their world, but their traces persist in the museums, caves and place names of Gran Canaria.

The cave people
When the Castilians landed on Gran Canaria in 1478, they found a people living in caves carved into cliff faces, cultivating barley and raising goats. The Guanches — a name given by the Spanish — had no boats, no metals, no writing in the classical sense. But they had symbols, carved and painted on the walls of their caverns.
The Cueva Pintada of Gáldar, discovered in the 19th century, revealed polychrome geometric patterns of unexpected sophistication: squares, triangles, concentric circles painted in red, white and black. Their meaning remains debated — astronomical calendar, territorial markers, mythological narratives?
The conquest of 1483 and the heroic resistance at Ansite marked the end of Guanche civilisation. But at the Museo Canario in Vegueta, skulls, pottery and terracotta idols still await someone to decipher their message.

The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you. When you find it, the phone vibrates, an AR chest opens and reveals your answer fragment. 8 stops, 8 clues to find with the camera, 1 final code.
The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.
