Vegueta is the birthplace of Las Palmas, founded in 1478 by Juan Rejón. Its basalt-paved alleys, carved wooden balconies and inner courtyards hide traces of the most famous stopover in history: that of Christopher Columbus, who stayed here in 1492 to repair the Pinta before heading to the New World. Between Santa Ana Cathedral and the Casa de Colón, every stone has a story to tell.

The stopover that changed the world
When Christopher Columbus arrived in Las Palmas in 1492, the city was only fourteen years old. Founded by Castilian conquistadors on the ruins of the Guanche world, Vegueta was then a small strategic port on the route to Africa. Columbus had the Pinta's rudder repaired there and waited for favourable winds in a house that would later become the Casa de Colón.
During those weeks of waiting, Columbus frequented Santa Ana Cathedral, still under construction, and the port merchants. It is said he entrusted documents to a local notable — maps and letters that were never sent. These documents disappeared after his departure and never resurfaced.
Today, the Casa de Colón is a museum, the cathedral has been completed for four centuries, and Vegueta has been listed as a historic heritage site. But some corners of the quarter have not changed since 1492 — and that is precisely where your investigation begins.

At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you.
