Your quest begins in Piazza Cavour, Tarquinia's central square, surrounded by medieval and Renaissance buildings. This historic crossroads, located immediately next to the Duomo, serves as a landmark for visitors exploring the old quarter. It is here, amidst the bustle of the Borgo, that you decipher the first clues leading to the Etruscan remains. The city of Tarquinia, one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia, invites you to travel back in time, from the Etruscan period to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
As you head towards the Mura Etrusche, you discover the remains of the Etruscan walls from the 5th-4th century BC, built from local tuff blocks. These fortifications, originally estimated to be 6 km long and 8-10 m high, are visible along the historical circuit. They were integrated into the medieval fortifications around Tarquinia's centro storico.
