Twelve thousand scrolls of knowledge and a secret tomb

Eight hidden scrolls, a wisdom to reassemble
The façade with four statues — Wisdom, Virtue, Intelligence, Knowledge — is one of the most photographed from antiquity. But the Library of Celsus hides a secret: beneath the reading room floor lies the marble sarcophagus of Governor Celsus, a forbidden exception within the Roman city walls. His heirs had dispersed eight scrolls in the building's niches, each containing a fragment of his philosophical testament.
« "The only true wealth is that of the mind." »— — Inscription attributed to Celsus, 2nd century
Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, Roman governor of the province of Asia, dies in AD 114. His son Aquila obtains exceptional permission to bury him in the heart of the city and builds above it a monumental library capable of housing 12,000 papyrus scrolls.
The façade, 16 metres high, plays with perspective: the central columns are taller than those on the sides, creating the illusion of an even more imposing building. The Goths burn the interior in 262, but the façade survives. It was restored by Austrian archaeologists in the 1970s.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding as you go.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.
Every riddle is rooted in a real historical fact or local legend. You leave with dozens of stories to tell.
Learn to read buildings — flamboyant Gothic, Baroque, Art Deco — like a real art historian, while having fun.
Walk through the city like a novel's character — every alley becomes a stage, every square a theatre.
A voice walks with you at every step, tells the story of each place, reads clues, adds a cinematic feel.
Keep access to the guide & game for 1 year. Come back any time, share it with friends.
