In 1644, the royal tax inspectors never found the real village of Alberobello.
The cone-roofed trulli, built of dry stone, could be dismantled in hours when an inspection was announced. But beneath those interchangeable cones, the peasants had dug a second underground village whose entrance is marked on seven roofs by a peculiar pinnacle.

Alberobello, the stone ruse
The trulli date back to the 14th-15th centuries, when the counts of Acquaviva let peasants settle the area on condition that they built nothing permanent — every permanent construction being taxed by the Kingdom of Naples. The solution was ingenious: dry stone, no mortar, dismantled in hours.
In 1797, Ferdinand IV finally raised Alberobello to the status of free town, released from the Acquaviva. The trulli stopped being taken down but kept their mysterious pinnacles and the symbols painted on their whitewash: crosses, suns, hearts, zodiacs — a cosmological alphabet unique in the world, now UNESCO-listed.

The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you. When you find it, the phone vibrates, an AR chest opens and reveals your answer fragment. 8 stops, 8 clues to find with the camera, 1 final code.
The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.

Usually 2 to 4 km of total walking, within 1.5 km as the crow flies from the start point. The route is designed to be walkable at a relaxed pace, no public transport needed.
