In Barcelona's medieval labyrinth, the walls still speak
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
Beneath the lanes of the Barri Gòtic, two thousand years of history overlap. The Roman colony of Barcino, the court of the Counts of Barcelona, the Jewish quarter of El Call — it is all still there, for those who look up.
Barcelona's Barri Gòtic is a magnificent lie. Most of its "medieval" facades date from the early 20th century, rebuilt to give the city a Gothic past it no longer had. But beneath this scenery, the real Middle Ages persist: the columns of the Temple of Augustus in an apartment courtyard, the stones of the Roman wall in house walls, the layout of the Jewish Call in the narrowest lanes. This game separates truth from fiction — and the truth is more fascinating.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living city guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding step by step as you walk.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.

Learn to read buildings — flamboyant Gothic, Baroque, Art Deco — like a real art historian, while having fun.

« "Barcelona rebuilt its Middle Ages in the 20th century. But the real Middle Ages needed no restoration — they were hidden in the cellars." »— — In El Call, the Hebrew stones are still embedded in the walls
Barcino was founded by the Romans around 10 BC under Augustus. The colony was modest — Tarraco (Tarragona) was the real provincial capital. But Barcino had an advantage: its position between sea and mountain, sheltered by Montjuïc. The Romans built a temple to Augustus, baths, a forum. Their walls, reinforced in the 4th century, are still visible in the quarter's subsoil.
In the Middle Ages, Barcelona became the capital of a Catalan maritime empire stretching from Provence to Athens. The Plaça del Rei housed the Counts of Barcelona in the Palau Reial Major, a palace whose Tinell Hall — with its spectacular round arches — saw Columbus present his discoveries to the Catholic Monarchs in 1493. El Call, the Jewish quarter, was one of Europe's most important until the pogroms of 1391.
The "gothicisation" of the quarter in the early 20th century — the neo-Gothic Pont del Bisbe, the cathedral facade — blurred the lines. But archaeologists have kept digging. Beneath the Plaça del Rei, the city history museum (MUHBA) reveals Roman Barcino intact. The real and the fake coexist here like nowhere else.

The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you. When you find it, the phone vibrates, an AR chest opens and reveals your answer fragment. 8 stops, 8 clues to find with the camera, 1 final code.
The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.
