The heroine of the siege that shook Napoleon
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
In 1808, when the soldiers fell and the cannons fell silent, a twenty-two-year-old woman seized the fuse and changed the course of History.
In June 1808, sixty thousand of Napoleon's soldiers besieged Zaragoza. The city had neither worthy walls nor a sufficient garrison. But it had its people — civilians, monks, women and children — who fought street by street, house by house, with a ferocity that stunned all of Europe.
« "Zaragoza has no walls. Zaragoza needs none. Every house is a fortress, every inhabitant a soldier." »— — General Verdier's report to Napoleon, July 1808
On 15 June 1808, General Lefebvre's French troops appeared before Zaragoza. The city was defended by General Palafox and a small garrison. Napoleon expected a swift capitulation. He was wrong.
Agustina Zaragoza Doménech, a twenty-two-year-old woman, was at the Portillo battery when all the artillerymen were killed. Rather than flee, she seized the fuse of a cannon and fired point-blank into the French columns. This act galvanised the resistance.
The first siege lasted two months. The second, from December 1808 to February 1809, was even more terrible — hand-to-hand combat in the ruins, epidemics, famine. The city lost more than fifty thousand inhabitants. But its resistance became the symbol of the Spanish War of Independence.

Outdoor escape game format: no physical locks, no actor, no fixed time slot. You start when you want, progress through Zaragoza · From El Portillo to Plaza del Pilar with your phone, and the city itself is the set. More immersive on local history, more flexible in pace.
Easy stroll: between stops you walk 3 to 7 minutes. No tough climbs unless flagged on the product page. If you really want to push, you can jog between stops, but that's not the point.
No, solo works very well. The outdoor escape game format in self-guided mode leaves room for introspection: read the story at your pace, hunt clues like a detective. 2-6 players is more social, solo is more contemplative.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons: mild temperatures, fewer tourists, gorgeous light. Summer is also great but go for early morning before 11 or late afternoon. Winter is perfectly playable, especially in southern cities — Zaragoza · From El Portillo to Plaza del Pilar often feels more authentic then.
