The boy from Tormes — poverty, cunning and survival in the Golden Age
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
In 1554, an anonymous novel tells the life of Lázaro, a poor child of Salamanca who survives by serving cruel masters. This book invented a genre — the picaresque novel — and changed literature forever.
The Lazarillo de Tormes is one of the most important texts in Spanish literature — and one of the most subversive. Published anonymously in 1554 (its author risked the stake), it tells the life of an abandoned child who survives by his wits in 16th-century Salamanca. Each master he serves — a blind man, a miserly priest, a ruined squire — is a fierce satire of Spanish society.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living city guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding step by step as you walk.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.
Every riddle is rooted in a real historical fact or local legend. You leave with dozens of stories to tell.
Learn to read buildings — flamboyant Gothic, Baroque, Art Deco — like a real art historian, while having fun.
Walk through the city like a novel's character — every alley becomes a stage, every square a theatre.
A voice walks with you at every step, tells the story of each place, reads clues, adds a cinematic feel.

« "My mother entrusted me to a blind man, telling him: here he is, he is your child; treat him well, he is an orphan. He replied that he would, and that he received me not as a servant, but as a son." »— — Lazarillo de Tormes, Treatise I (1554)
The Lazarillo de Tormes appeared in 1554, published simultaneously in Burgos, Alcalá de Henares and Antwerp. Its author remains anonymous to this day — and for good reason: the text is a frontal attack on the clergy, the nobility and the hypocrisy of a society obsessed with honour and blood purity.
The novel begins in Salamanca, by the Tormes. Lázaro is born on the banks of this river — the text literally says he was "born in the river." His father is a miller and a thief. His mother entrusts him to a blind beggar, his first master, who teaches him the cruelty of the world by smashing his head against the stone bull on the bridge.
That stone bull still exists. It stands at the end of the Roman bridge, at the entrance to the city. It is the first literary monument in Spanish literature — and the starting point of your route.

The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you. When you find it, the phone vibrates, an AR chest opens and reveals your answer fragment. 8 stops, 8 clues to find with the camera, 1 final code.
The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.
