Your phantom treasure hunt begins in Jemaa el-Fna Square, the historical heart of Marrakech since the 12th century. Classified as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2001, this approximately 2-hectare square was a site of public executions under the Almohads around 1147, earning it the name 'Assembly of the Dead'. It was the convergence point for caravan routes, a vital crossroads for commerce and culture in Marrakech-Safi. Here, among storytellers and merchants, the first clues await you, hidden in the oral traditions and performances that animate the square.
Continue towards the Koutoubia Mosque, an Almohad historical monument built between 1147 and 1158. Its 77-meter minaret, added in 1195 by Yaqub al-Mansur, served as a model for the Giralda of Seville and was used as a lighthouse to guide caravans up to 20 km away. This hexagonal minaret, adorned with Almohad motifs, dominates the Marrakech skyline. The mosque, capable of accommodating 25,000 worshippers, is a testament to the grandeur of the Almohad dynasty.
