The history of Hollókő
From Mongol Invasions to Ottoman Control
Hollókő's origins date to the 13th century, after the Mongol invasion of Hungary in 1241-1242. To protect the area from future attacks, the Kacsics noble clan began construction of Hollókő Castle on a hilltop. The castle was first documented in 1310. The original village was built directly below the castle walls.
