From Conflict to Cooperation: The Legacy of Camp David
The Sinai, a land rich in history and a strategic crossroads, was for decades a focal point of the Arab-Israeli conflict. After the Six-Day War in 1967, the peninsula was occupied by Israel, heightening regional tensions and the arms race. The Yom Kippur War in 1973, though initially an Egyptian-Syrian offensive, paved the way for complex negotiations, with American mediation, to find a lasting solution.
It was in this context that the Camp David Accords, signed in 1978 by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and US President Jimmy Carter, marked a historic turning point.
