The Nuragic civilization, native to Sardinia, developed during the Bronze Age, between the 18th and 8th centuries BC. Its name derives from the 'nuraghi,' massive truncated cone-shaped megalithic towers, over 7,000 of which still stand on the island. These complex structures, often surrounded by villages and fortifications, are unique in the world and bear witness to an organized society capable of architectural prowess and sophisticated engineering. The Su Nuraxi site, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the most spectacular example, revealing a powerful central nuraghe and a vast village of circular huts.
Despite the abundance of their monuments, the Nuragic people left no written records. Their social system, religious beliefs, and the exact reasons for their decline remain largely unknown.
