Chenini — Uncover the Berber Resistance

Your journey begins near the Chenini Mosque, a building whose minaret, visible against a blue sky, is a central landmark of the ksar. This ancient, partially underground mosque stands near giant tombs. During the French protectorate, it was protected by the Ouled Yacoub, Ouled Debbab, and Ouderna tribes. Continue towards the Ghorfas of Chenini, troglodytic stores integrated into the ksar. The Ksar of Chenini itself, built in the late 12th century (590 AH), served as a fortified granary and refuge against 11th-century Hilalian invasions.
