Your journey begins at the Iglesia de Santa Elena, an 18th-century colonial church that stands as a landmark in the village of Santa Elena. Although its typical Franciscan mission architecture contrasts with the Maya buildings, it marks the starting point for your exploration of the local heritage. It is here that Maya legends intertwine with colonial traditions, preparing you for the mysteries that await in the Uxmal archaeological zone. You will receive your first instructions to unlock the secrets of the ancient world.

Continuing your path towards the heart of the Uxmal Maya site, you will encounter the Pirámide del Adivino. This unique structure, 35 meters high and built between 700 and 900 AD during the Postclassic period, is dedicated to the Maya priest-diviner. Its steep staircase and five levels attest to advanced engineering and spirituality. It is in front of it that you will observe the first clues of astronomical alignment, essential for understanding the Maya ritual calendar and Kukulcán's prophecies.

Further on, the Observatorio Astronómico, also known as El Caracol, reveals the scientific knowledge of the Mayas. This circular tower, 15 meters high and erected between 800 and 900 AD, is the only one of its kind among classic Puuc sites. Its windows are precisely aligned to observe Venus and the polar stars, crucial elements for Maya rituals and calendars. Using augmented reality, you can visualize the constellations as the ancients contemplated them, deciphering celestial messages.

The Cuadrángulo de las Monjas, built around 900 AD, then welcomes you with its four buildings surrounding a 60x45 meter courtyard. Its facades are adorned with nearly 15,000 masks of Chaac, the Maya rain god, making this complex a masterpiece of the Puuc style. The Spanish names of the buildings – North (74 rooms), East (30 rooms), South, West – remind you of the layering of cultures. It is a place conducive to meditating on the power of deities and the importance of water in Maya civilization.

Your journey concludes on the Calle de los Muertos, a paved road 4 meters wide and approximately 1 km long that connects the main buildings of the Uxmal archaeological site. This ceremonial road, aligned along the astronomical north-south axis, was used for Maya religious processions.
