When nature sculpted a labyrinth of stone
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
Near Cuenca, a surreal landscape of rocks sculpted by millions of years of erosion forms a natural labyrinth. The Ciudad Encantada is an open-air geological museum where every formation has a name, a shape and a mystery to unveil.
The Ciudad Encantada is not the work of humans — it is the masterpiece of time. Over ninety million years, water, wind and frost sculpted limestone into fantastic shapes: giant mushrooms, natural bridges, stone faces. This karst landscape, unique in Europe, is a perfect playground for a geological escape game.
« "Nature knows no straight lines — it prefers the enigma." »— — Naturalist inspiration
Ninety million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, the Cuenca region was covered by the Tethys Sea. Marine sediments — limestone, dolomite, marl — were deposited in thick layers on the seabed. When the waters receded and the plateau rose, these rocks were exposed to the elements.
Karst erosion did the rest. Rainwater, slightly acidic, dissolved the limestone along its natural fissures, creating shapes that human imagination quickly named: El Tormo Alto (the giant mushroom), El Mar de Piedra (the sea of stone), Los Barcos (the ships). Each formation results from a precise geological process — dissolution, frost, collapse — that the route teaches you to decode.
In the city, Cuenca's cathedral, the first Gothic cathedral in Castile begun in 1196, offers another spectacle. Its 20th-century neo-Gothic facade hides an Anglo-Norman interior unique in Spain, imported by the English knights who accompanied Alfonso VIII during the reconquest. The Convent of San Pablo, perched above the Huécar gorge, completes a route between nature and architecture.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding as you go.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.
Every riddle is rooted in a real historical fact or local legend. You leave with dozens of stories to tell.
Learn to read buildings — flamboyant Gothic, Baroque, Art Deco — like a real art historian, while having fun.
Walk through the city like a novel's character — every alley becomes a stage, every square a theatre.
A voice walks with you at every step, tells the story of each place, reads clues, adds a cinematic feel.

Yes — your code stays active and progress is saved. You can start Saturday afternoon, finish Sunday morning. Some players actually prefer this format to make the most of a full weekend on site.
Great two-person format. Narration is dramatic without overdoing it, puzzles are designed to spark conversation. Ideal for new relationships or anniversaries — you discover the city and coordinate on puzzles simultaneously.
Intermittent 4G is plenty. Maps are cached at startup. Narration and clues load per stop, so a so-so signal between stops is fine. GPS itself uses no data.
