« Il faut que le cœur soit vaillant pour faire de grandes choses »— Devise de Jacques Cœur gravée sur son palais de Bourges
Jacques Coeur was born around 1395 into a bourgeois goldsmith family in Bourges. Through his marriage to Macée de Léodepart, daughter of a royal provost, he gained access to circles of power. In 1432, Charles VII appointed him commissioner of currency, then royal financier in 1438. Coeur then revolutionized French commerce by creating a network of agents extending from London to Damascus, importing silks, spices and precious metals from the East.
His palace in Bourges, completed in 1453, testifies to his extraordinary wealth with its sculpted towers and ornate galleries. But that same year, accused of poisoning Agnès Sorel and trading with infidels, he was arrested by order of the king he had so enriched. Sentenced to banishment and confiscation of his goods in 1453, he went into exile in Rome where Pope Nicholas V welcomed him. He died in 1456 during a naval expedition against the Turks, leaving behind the memory of the greatest merchant of his era.
8 stages through the city
The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.
