From sleeping town to Pueblo Mágico
Todos Santos experienced its golden age between 1880 and 1950 thanks to sugar cane. The Ingenio de Todos Santos, founded in 1868, exported its sugar to California and transformed the village into a small prosperous paradise. But in 1965, competition from beet sugar caused definitive closure. Mass exodus to La Paz and Cabo San Lucas. In 1986, only 3,000 inhabitants remained and dilapidated colonial houses sold for a pittance.
Then came the pioneers: Charles Stewart, landscape painter, Derek Buckner, ceramist, and Ezra Katz, gallery owner from Los Angeles. They bought former sugar barons' mansions, restored them, installed workshops and galleries. Word of mouth worked: by 1995, Todos Santos had fifteen art galleries. In 2006, the Mexican government awarded it the title of Pueblo Mágico — official recognition of its cultural renaissance. Today, it's one of Mexico's most sought-after artistic destinations.

Hunt the clue — it materializes as golden letters on the real wall or floats in front of you.
