A booby-trapped port, a race against time

Cherbourg is the logistical keystone of D-Day. Without this deep-water port, the Allies cannot supply their advance. But General von Schlieben has received Hitler's order: destroy every quay, mine every basin, sabotage every crane. You are a saboteur infiltrated into the port — your mission: neutralise the charges before the last German officer gives the order to blow everything.

« "The port of Cherbourg must be rendered unusable for months. Not a crane, not a quay must remain intact." »
— Adolf Hitler's order to General von Schlieben, June 1944

The battle for France's most strategic port

From the earliest planning of D-Day, Cherbourg was identified as a priority objective. It was the only deep-water port on the Normandy coast, capable of receiving the supply ships needed for the Allied advance. Without Cherbourg, the Liberation's logistics relied entirely on beaches and the Mulberry harbour — insufficient long-term.

From June 22 to 26, 1944, the Battle of Cherbourg raged. American troops of the VII Corps, led by General Collins, encircled the city and advanced toward the port under heavy fire. General von Schlieben surrendered on June 26, but he had followed orders: the port was a field of ruins. Dynamited quays, mined basins, collapsed cranes, ships scuttled in the channels. Over 20,000 mines littered the port and its approaches.

It took three weeks for American engineer teams to make the port partially operational in July 1944. The PLUTO pipeline (Pipe-Line Under The Ocean), a secret undersea oil pipeline linking England to Cherbourg, began pumping fuel in August. At its peak, Cherbourg became the world's largest unloading port, handling more material than the port of New York.

Frequently asked questions

Q01Do I need to download an app?

No, never. You get a link, you click, it plays in your browser. That's the point of a PWA: same as an app, without the hassle.

Q02Does it work offline?

GPS yes (handled by your phone). Maps yes (tiles cached). AI and hints need an intermittent 4G connection.

Q03How long does a game take?

1 h 30 to 2 h 30 depending on your pace. The timer runs but only for the leaderboard — you play at your own tempo.

Q04What happens if I'm stuck?

You get 3 levels of hints per puzzle (increasing penalty). If truly stuck, you can skip the step (45-min penalty but you keep going).

Q05What's the age range?

From 12 without an adult, from 6 with an adult reading puzzles. Works for families, couples, friend groups, companies.

Q06What if my city isn't in the catalogue?

Pre-register or contact us — we'll email you as soon as your city is live.

Q07What is augmented reality exactly?

Point your phone at the façade: a historical character appears full-screen and speaks to you in your language. At the puzzle climax, golden letters magically write themselves on the real wall — that's your answer. After each puzzle solved, a treasure chest floats in front of you. Seeing is believing.
