Two fortresses to guard the border
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
Vitré and Fougères, the twin fortresses of the Marches of Brittany, guarded the duchy's border. Balzac set "Les Chouans" here during the Revolution. The walls have forgotten nothing.
Vitré is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in France. Its triangular castle, perched on a rocky spur, guarded Brittany's eastern border since the 11th century. With Fougères, its twin to the north, Vitré formed an impregnable lock on the Marches of Brittany — the buffer zone between the duchy and the Kingdom of France. During the Revolution, the Chouans used these fortresses as resistance bases. Your mission: breach the castle's defenses and find the border guards' secret message.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding as you go.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.

« "Civil war leaves no monuments, it leaves only ruins in the hearts." »— — Honoré de Balzac, "Les Chouans," 1829
The Marches of Brittany designated the border zone between the Duchy of Brittany and the Kingdom of France from the 10th to the 16th century. Vitré, Fougères, and Châteaubriant formed the triple lock of this border. The Château de Vitré, with its unique triangular plan, was built in the 11th century by Baron Robert I of Vitré.
The town experienced its golden age in the 15th and 16th centuries through international trade in hemp cloth — Vitré's "canvas" was exported as far as South America. Rue de la Baudrairie, with its half-timbered houses and medieval shops, still testifies to this prosperity.
During the French Revolution, the Chouans — Breton royalist insurgents — used Vitré and Fougères as rear bases. Balzac, fascinated by this civil war, set his novel "Les Chouans" here in 1829. Today, Vitré's old town is so well preserved it feels like walking through a medieval film set.
5 stages through the city
The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. When you find it, the phone vibrates, an AR chest opens and reveals your answer fragment. 8 stops, 8 clues to find with the camera, 1 final code.
The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.
