The Noaidi and the Christianization of Lapland
Before the advent of Christianity, Sami society was deeply animistic and centered on nature. The Noaidi, central figures in this spirituality, acted as intermediaries between the human world and the realm of spirits. Their sacred drums, adorned with cosmic symbols, were essential instruments for healing rituals, divinations, and shamanic journeys, helping to maintain balance between worlds and ensure community prosperity.
