The Architect of Eternity
The unification of China under Qin Shi Huang's reign in 221 BC marked the beginning of a new era and the birth of a colossal empire. Obsessed with immortality and the perpetuation of his power in the afterlife, the Emperor ordered the construction of a mausoleum of unprecedented scale, which began as soon as he ascended the throne of Qin in 246 BC. Thousands of artisans and soldiers were mobilized to create this monumental necropolis, designed to mirror his court and army in eternity.
The famous Terracotta Warriors, accidentally discovered in 1974 by local farmers, are only a fraction of this gigantic work. Most of Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum, including the imperial tomb itself, remains unexplored beneath a massive tumulus. Historical accounts by Sima Qian describe an underground palace filled with treasures, mercury rivers, and deadly traps. The mystery of these 95% still buried continues to fascinate, suggesting the existence of imperial plans or maps that could reveal the extent and complexity of this archaeological wonder.
