The archangel guards a thousand-year secret
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
In 708, Bishop Aubert receives a visit from the Archangel Michael, who commands him to build a sanctuary on the rock. Thirteen centuries later, the abbey's scriptorium produced thousands of manuscripts — but one, the most precious, was never found.
Mont Saint-Michel rises from the bay like a surreal vision — a medieval village crowned by an abbey that touches the sky. For centuries, Benedictine monks copied, illuminated, and preserved the knowledge of humanity here. The scriptorium, nestled in the Salle des Chevaliers, witnessed the birth of masterpieces in ink and gold. But one manuscript, the one revealing the secret of the archangel's sword, vanished during the Revolution. Your ascent begins at the village gate — and will only end at the abbey's summit.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding as you go.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.
Every riddle is rooted in a real historical fact or local legend. You leave with dozens of stories to tell.
Learn to read buildings — flamboyant Gothic, Baroque, Art Deco — like a real art historian, while having fun.
Walk through the city like a novel's character — every alley becomes a stage, every square a theatre.
A voice walks with you at every step, tells the story of each place, reads clues, adds a cinematic feel.

« "The Mount is to France what the Great Pyramid is to Egypt." »— — Victor Hugo, 1836
In 708, legend has it, the Archangel Michael appears to Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, and commands him to build an oratory on Mont Tombe, a granite islet surrounded by Europe's most powerful tides. Aubert hesitates, the archangel insists — and pierces his skull with his finger to convince him. Aubert's punctured skull is still preserved at the Avranches basilica.
Over the centuries, the modest oratory becomes one of Christendom's most grandiose abbeys. The Benedictine monks build the Merveille, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture suspended between sky and sea. The cloister, the Salle des Chevaliers, the refectory — each level is a feat of medieval engineering. The scriptorium produces illuminated manuscripts of extraordinary beauty, spreading knowledge across Europe.
Turned into a prison during the Revolution — nicknamed "the Bastille of the seas" — the Mount was saved in the 19th century thanks to a campaign led by Victor Hugo. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, it now welcomes more than 2.5 million visitors each year. The tides still rise at the speed of a galloping horse, a reminder that nature remains master of this place.
5 stages through the city
