Utrecht still resonates with the melodies of Jacob van Eyck, composer and carillonneur who transformed the Dom Tower into a giant instrument between 1625 and 1657. Born around 1590, this recorder virtuoso revolutionized Dutch street music by creating 'Der Fluyten Lust-hof', the first European collection dedicated to variations for solo flute. The Dom Tower, built between 1321 and 1382, rises 112.5 meters above Utrecht as the tallest medieval belfry in the Netherlands.
