Inca gold at the bottom of the bay
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
A Spanish galleon laden with Inca gold sank off Concarneau. Vauban fortified the island to protect this secret. The walls of the Ville Close have never spoken — until today.
Concarneau's Ville Close is a fortress built on an island in the middle of the harbor. Behind its walls, reinforced by Vauban, a legend persists: a Spanish galleon carrying Inca gold reportedly sank in the bay in the 16th century. Successive governors of the stronghold were allegedly ordered never to let anyone explore the depths. Your mission: enter the Ville Close and find the treasure map before the tide traps you.
« "The sea never gives back what it takes — except to those who know where to look." »— — Proverb of Concarneau's fishermen
Concarneau's Ville Close is one of the rare fortified cities built on a coastal island. From the 14th century, this strategic position made it a major prize in the wars of Brittany. English, French, and Bretons fought over it in turn.
In the 16th century, Spanish galleons laden with New World gold sailed the maritime routes off Brittany. Several shipwrecks are documented along the Finistère coast. Local legend claims a galleon carrying Inca gold sank in Concarneau's bay, and that authorities fortified the island to prevent anyone from accessing it.
Vauban reinforced the walls in the late 17th century, adding bastions and watchtowers. Today, the Ville Close remains one of the best-preserved fortified complexes in Brittany, and fishermen still whisper that gold sleeps at the bottom of the bay.
