The Chichimeca War — fifty years of nomadic resistance

« This land has been ours for a thousand generations. Your mines will not change that. »
Chichimeca Chief Copuz to Captain Caldera, 1589

The Chichimeca War and the founding of San Luis

The discovery of silver mines in Zacatecas (1546) and Guanajuato (1550) transformed the Bajío into a vital strategic corridor for the Spanish Empire. But this semi-desert region was the ancestral territory of the Chichimeca peoples — Guachichiles, Pames, Guamares, Zacatecos — nomadic warriors who perfectly mastered the art of guerrilla warfare in their hostile environment.

The war broke out around 1550 and lasted half a century. The Chichimecas systematically attacked silver convoys, destroyed haciendas, and massacred settlers. In 1590, Miguel Caldera, a mestizo captain who spoke their languages, negotiated the Paz de los Chichimecas. San Luis Potosí was founded in 1592 as a pacified presidio, marking the end of the longest indigenous resistance war in New Spain.

Frequently asked questions

Q01What's the difference with a regular indoor escape room?

Outdoor escape game format: no physical locks, no actor, no fixed time slot. You start when you want, progress through San Luis Potosí, extended circuit with your phone, and the city itself is the set. More immersive on local history, more flexible in pace.

Q02Can we take a break mid-trail?

Of course. Stop at a café, have lunch, resume later: your progress is saved. Many players bake a meal break into the trail, especially with families.

Q03Do we need to be several people to enjoy it?

No, solo works very well. The outdoor escape game format in self-guided mode leaves room for introspection: read the story at your pace, hunt clues like a detective. 2-6 players is more social, solo is more contemplative.

Q04What happens if it rains in San Luis Potosí, extended circuit?

The game is playable in light rain — just keep your phone under a hood. For heavy thunderstorms, your code stays valid, you can postpone to another day at no cost.
