177 Frenchmen against the Atlantic Wall
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
They were only 177. The only Frenchmen to land in Normandy on June 6, 1944. Their mission: take the casino bunker at Ouistreham, a concrete fortress turned into a German stronghold. Kieffer's commandos never retreated.
When the Allies plan the invasion, only one French unit is deemed combat-ready: the 1st Battalion of Marine Fusilier Commandos, under Commander Philippe Kieffer. 177 men trained by the British, integrated into Lord Lovat's No. 4 Commando. Their green beret is French, their heart is French, but their mission is universal: liberate France. You are one of them. Find the casino bunker plans before the assault.
« "This is it, lads, the big day. We're going home." »— — Commander Philippe Kieffer to his men, June 6, 1944, 7:31 AM
Philippe Kieffer is a banker turned soldier. When France falls in 1940, he joins the Free French Forces in London and convinces the British to let him create a French commando unit. Trained in Scotland under extreme conditions, his men become the elite of the elite — the only Frenchmen deemed fit to participate in the invasion.
On June 6 at 7:31 AM, Kieffer's 177 commandos hit the sand of Sword Beach at Ouistreham. Kieffer is hit in the thigh by shrapnel but refuses evacuation. His men push toward the Ouistreham casino, turned by the Germans into a fortified bunker with two-meter-thick concrete walls. The assault is brutal — grenades, flamethrowers, hand-to-hand combat on the stairs.
In less than two hours, the casino bunker is taken. But the price is terrible: of the 177 men who landed, only 120 are still standing by the end of the day. Kieffer, wounded twice, will continue to lead until the liberation of Paris. The Grand Bunker at Ouistreham, a five-story German command post, is today a museum preserving the memory of these 177 heroes.

Yes, from age 6 with an adult reading puzzles aloud, and from age 12 on their own. Kids love the "find the camera clue" part — it's very visual, gets them genuinely involved.
Three hint levels per puzzle, with a small increasing time penalty. If truly stuck after level 3, you can skip the step (45-min penalty). The point: nobody stays blocked and goes home frustrated.
