The Charlottetown Conspiracy — Uncover the Secret Pact of 1864

🎭Your Mission

You are a discreet investigator, hired to uncover the hidden truths behind the Charlottetown Conference, September 1864.

Thirty-six delegates arrived in Charlottetown with a radical vision—to

The Conference that Invented Canada

« We must be prepared to discuss the question of a larger union of all the British provinces in North America. »
John A. Macdonald, September 1st, 1864

The Birth of a Nation

In 1864, British North America consisted of isolated colonies: the United Province of Canada (present-day Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. The American Civil War raised fears of northward expansion, while the colonies struggled economically. The Maritimes considered regional union to pool their resources.

From September 1st to 9th, 1864, the Charlottetown Conference brought together 33 delegates in Province House. John A. Macdonald, George-Étienne Cartier, George Brown, and Alexander Galt arrived from the United Province of Canada with a revolutionary proposal: create a transcontinental federation. Their compelling arguments transformed what was meant to be a simple Maritime discussion into the genesis of modern Canada. The resolutions adopted would lead to the Quebec and London conferences, culminating in the British North America Act of 1867.
