For 43 years, Claude Monet obsessively painted his Giverny garden — the water lilies, the Japanese bridge, the reflections in the water. What if these paintings contained more than light? What if the master of Impressionism encoded coordinates visible only from a certain angle?
Claude Monet settled in Giverny in 1883 and never left. For over four decades, he transformed a Norman garden into a living work of art — diverting the Epte river to create his water lily pond, importing plants from Japan, painting the same Japanese bridge under hundreds of different lights. The 250 water lily paintings are not merely paint — they are the pages of a diary coded in color. Your mission: decipher what Monet truly painted.

« "My finest masterpiece is my garden." »— — Claude Monet
When Claude Monet arrives in Giverny in 1883, he is 42 and Impressionism — the movement he launched with his painting Impression, Sunrise — is still mocked by critics. He rents a pink house with green shutters, facing a garden that will become the most famous in the world. For 43 years, Monet will paint this garden in every light, every season, every hour of the day.
In 1893, he purchases a marshy plot across the road and has a pond dug, fed by a branch of the Epte river. He plants water lilies, builds a wooden bridge inspired by the Japanese prints he collects, and surrounds it all with weeping willows, bamboo, and irises. This water garden becomes his ultimate obsession: he will paint over 250 versions of it, increasingly abstract, until his death in 1926.
Today, the Claude Monet Foundation has restored the house and gardens to their original state. The water lily pond, the Japanese bridge, the flower-lined paths — everything is as Monet painted it. The house preserves his collection of Japanese prints and his blue-tiled kitchen. The nearby Church of Sainte-Radegonde houses the Monet family tomb, in a small cemetery where irises still grow.
