The dethroned king who turned Nancy into a masterpiece
📱 1 to 10 phones · 1 team per phone · Independent codes
Stanislas Leszczynski, twice King of Poland and twice dethroned, made Nancy his revenge. Place Stanislas, an 18th-century jewel, hides within its golden gates a code the old king took to his grave.
Place Stanislas is regularly voted the most beautiful square in the world. Its golden gates by Jean Lamour, its fountains by Barthélemy Guibal, and its perfect architectural harmony are the work of a man who had lost everything — his throne, his country, his honor — and who transformed Nancy into a monument to his own glory. But Stanislas was also a man of secrets, an Enlightenment philosopher who corresponded with Voltaire and hid messages in his creations.
You're not just buying an escape game. You're carrying a living guide — historical anecdotes, forgotten legends, key monuments, hidden architecture — unfolding as you go.
At each stop, places ordinary guides miss — secret façades, sculpted crests, alleys steeped in history.

« "I lost two crowns, but I gained Nancy." »— — Stanislas Leszczynski, Duke of Lorraine, 18th century
Stanislas Leszczynski was twice elected King of Poland and twice forced into exile. His son-in-law, Louis XV of France, offered him the Duchy of Lorraine in 1737 as compensation. This poisoned gift — the duchy would revert to France upon his death — became in his hands a work of art.
Between 1751 and 1755, Stanislas had the architectural ensemble of Place Stanislas built by architect Emmanuel Héré. Jean Lamour's gates, a masterpiece of gilded ironwork, frame the square and form a setting for the classical buildings. The Arc Héré links the square to the Pépinière park through a theatrical perspective.
Stanislas was a man of the Enlightenment. He wrote philosophical treatises, founded academies, and corresponded with Voltaire. In his private writings, he alludes to a "treasure of wisdom" that he encoded in the very architecture of his square. The patterns of Lamour's gates are not purely decorative — they follow a symbolic program that historians have not entirely deciphered.
5 stages through the city
The gameplay: AR, camera, hidden clues
At each stop, open your phone camera: an augmented reality character appears on the façade and speaks your language. The stops on your route are a surprise. You'll discover them one by one, guided by your phone, starting from the meeting point.
