Pointe du Raz is the westernmost promontory of mainland France. Here, cliffs plunge sheer into a raging ocean, wind howls between the rocks, and Breton legends take on a terrifying dimension. The Bay of the Dead — "Bae an Anaon" in Breton — is the passage for souls to the other world. Korrigans, nocturnal creatures of Breton folklore, guard the paths. Your mission: follow the path of souls and decipher the messages that the ferrymen of the dead left in the stone.

Pointe du Raz — the Cape of the Dead and the passage of souls
Pointe du Raz is one of the wildest and most feared places in France. The currents of the Raz de Sein, between the point and the Île de Sein, are among the most violent in Europe. Hundreds of ships have broken apart there over the centuries. It is no coincidence that the Bretons placed the passage of souls to the afterlife here.
The Bay of the Dead — Bae an Anaon, "the bay of souls" in Breton — probably owes its name to the bodies of shipwreck victims the sea washed ashore. But Celtic tradition sees it as the departure point for the "death boat," the Ankou, which carries souls to the Île de Sein, the ancient island of the druids.
Korrigans, small creatures of Breton folklore, are said to haunt the heathlands around the Pointe. The Chapel of Saint-They, on the cliff edge, was built to protect sailors and travelers from these mischievous spirits. The Phare de la Vieille, erected on a wave-battered rock, is one of the most isolated and most photographed lighthouses in the world.
